I don't know if you ever found a fix for your Fraps issue a while back, but in either case, I'd suggest switching to Open Broadcast Suite. It's primarily for streaming (on Twitch and what not), but is easily configured to only record locally, and provides much more control over the quality of what you're recording - and it doesn't use nearly as much resources as Fraps does, which means you could record at higher framerates and resolutions. :)
