Meanwhile, guess what, I just found an early prototype of that ingenious crank-like device Rose's executioners used to keep her upright and well spread. It's from Pichard's "Maison de Correction Princesse Mélanie". Amazing! Also it well illustrates how line drawings can be much clearer and more accurate in such descriptions...
