there was a recent case where a spammer created 1000 new threads in the lit section, pushing everything past page 20. The mods fixed it and said the server doesn't delete, just hides it. So at least its not really "lost" but I am not sure if links still work.
If in doubt, I would bump those threads before they fall over the edge. Just in case
