Simple belly wounds take days to kill a person because the death is from bacterial infection from severed bowels. Grace would have died from blood loss which is not painful in itself. Rotting to death from a stomach would takes days and is horribly painful. This is why soldiers during the 30 years war routinely shot their comrades with belly wounds through the head.
