Really late to the party, but i recently got started on this HS stuff and watching at your pic it looks like the stubs there are composed by carefully placed props (cilinder, cone, sphere and chain), most likely linked to the corresponding bone in order to make them follow their motion in case the creator wanted to make some more positions.
