Well,by opening webpage you more or less allow someone to run application on your pc.
The biggest benefit is that now content can be rendered on client side rather than server side which saves traffic and server CPU
even if this is serious privacy issue there is just no other way to implement the same functionality.
But either way if you do not use VPN nothing of that matters. your IP is better identifier than anything else.
