This is only partly correct. Most "Las Vegas Effects" can be realized by simple HTML/CSS. Calculations are something that needs scripting. But useful services are extremely rare compared to the usual utilization: restriction of access to information.

Thats again only partly correct. First: a VPN is not the only tool to hide your identity. Second: Its vice versa. ALL taken actions to become untraceable are needless if JS and cookies are active. Third: IPs (more accurately IP-addresses) are what "they" are after. But an IP is only needed as long as you are online to get access to your computer. Unless you have a static address there are more efficient ways to recognize you when you go online the next time with a different IP-address.
