In this scenario they retain everything, not only memories and if they dont die they even wake up normally next day (actually even dead bodies are left if not disposed properly as you could suspect from the story ;)
So rather than practicing skills they are practicing different experiences.


But when you know it it is not really that interesting so i don't want all characters to be aware of this mechanic immediately. When they die they remember what happened as a dream but they are not aware that it was not a dream.
so only if they die lots of times they start noticing the pattern unless someone tells them or they observe it without dying and waking up next day to see that everyone is fine (but even then they are not fully aware that what happened on previous day is not a dream either) ;)
