First of all, disclaimer, it wasn't meant at all as a criticism of the universe you chose to represent. I quite like the whimsical nature of what you're doing and I'd rather you keep up with it. I was only discussing what was said about possible "realistic" settings that can be used.

I do get where you're coming from with the bureaucratic fetish. And it is partially true. I do like the idea of a universe where the characters death is some kind of social imperative. They're helpless to fight against it in a way, but it's not necessarily a violent process either. I do like the idea of a character that knows from the start they may be doomed and tries to enjoy the intervening time as best as they can (or not, it can also be fun to explore the characters that are not willingly going along with it).

That said, it doesn't mean it can't be fun and lighthearted to some degree.

I think I like the fact that so far, your story is more a "playground for kids" rather than some story with a big overarching goal like fighting hunger or something. Kids do have a cruel streak, a lot of the time, and consider only their own enjoyment, not the suffering of others, or consequences. And that's perfect for things that wouldn't fit into a realistic setting.

Wow, this was some serious display of movie culture. I'd never heard the name of more than a quarter of those.

I don't think the overpopulation thing is that unrealistic. Of course, it's not a stable situation scenario, but it can very much be a "Hey, we got 4 billion people and only food left to feed about 100 million people a year. The rest are either gonna die of hunger or we can feed some of them to the others until we get the population low enough that we've got it under control. Oh, and while we're at it, once the richest have developed a taste for tender kids and kinky deadly games, even though we've got the population under control, there will be no stopping them from predating on the poorest. Oh well … Might as well enjoy it. "

Well, whenever I find the time, energy and courage to start actually writing my ideas, I hope you won't be disappointed. If your name is anything to be believed, we've got at least a kink in common.
