It was actually all expected as you described in the beginning.

Maybe it just ended a bit longer and more emotional than expected.

But speaking about running her over with a car that may be actually interesting idea if she comes back and everybody thinks she is a ghost or zombie (and being a bitch she may try to play a prank on them now) and now try to kill her and she keeps coming back and gets killed.
