Young Kat (13), was awoken in the middle of the night by the sounds of arguing coming from down stairs. Her mother was always inviting strange, scary looking men to their house. Every time before they arrived Kat's mother told her that she was not allowed downstairs for any reason. Kat was a good daughter and always did as her mother asked, so even though the sounds downstairs were loud and scary, and she thought she heard her mother scream, Kat stayed in her bed eyes shut tight and hands covering her ears. After awhile it became very quiet and Kat heard a door slam. Thinking the man had finally left, she snuck quietly down the stairs her ears perked for any sign of her mother's voice. As she left the stairs and walked into the living room, Kat was greeted with a horrifying sight. Her mother laid sprawled across the couch, her eyes wide and unseeing, her beautiful face a strange dark color that almost hid the ugly bruise around her neck.
