This will take at least another hour, time enough for a word on nutrition:

As a pirate, arriving at distant and foreign shores you want to be on the lookout for
fresh fruit to avoid scurvy. But be careful not to eat, what you don't know.
Hunt some local game first, you'll need the protein. Make them taste the fruit first!
From the reaction alone you'll know if it's poisonous or not.

Check the game for trichina and if you cook da food you must cook da food good!
Who knows where those piggies have rolled around in before? Take your time.
A good spit roast takes several hours. You don't want to burn the meat, but it has to be heated all the way through.
Make sure you have enough leftovers to pickle & brine or dry some meat for the journey back.
And last but not least, don't forget to hydrate properly.

Bon appetite! yarrr!
