Going by depictions from ancient greece that was a fairly common style of battlefield equipment. Nobody wore pants, and while a lot of soldiers wore leather skirts to give some protection below the belt, well…everyone had to bring their own gear, and affording just a bronze or reinforced-linen cuirass and shield was difficult enough for the average citizen :P.

That sounds also good. Trophies are very important to show the war power of an fighter. But how to carry plugs as a trophy? Maybe the Plugs shut be collected with in the enemy's anus in which they stuck.

So the end of rectum cut out including the plug. The rectum can be knotted on something, mybe a belt. On this way, the plugs can be collected and worn visible as trophys.
