First of all, disclaimer, it wasn't meant at all as a criticism of the universe you chose to represent. I quite like the whimsical nature of what you're doing and I'd rather you keep up with it. I was only discussing what was said about possible "realistic" settings that can be used.

I do get where you're coming from with the bureaucratic fetish. And it is partially true. I do like the idea of a universe where the characters death is some kind of social imperative. They're helpless to fight against it in a way, but it's not necessarily a violent process either. I do like the idea of a character that knows from the start they may be doomed and tries to enjoy the intervening time as best as they can (or not, it can also be fun to explore the characters that are not willingly going along with it).

That said, it doesn't mean it can't be fun and lighthearted to some degree.

I think I like the fact that so far, your story is more a "playground for kids" rather than some story with a big overarching goal like fighting hunger or something. Kids do have a cruel streak, a lot of the time, and consider only their own enjoyment, not the suffering of others, or consequences. And that's perfect for things that wouldn't fit into a realistic setting.

Thank you. Well, I've seen most of them. The oldest two - maybe three - are generally considered milestones in film history. I recommend watching them if you get the chance. They are not as action-heavy as the more recent ones, but their actual main topic - media criticism - is still as relevant today as it was back then.

So you could assume that they die for real and then story continues in another universe.
