The way the memory works is a bit odd. Essentially it has the last couple turns plus a summary of everything before that. The summary is rewritten every few turns by the AI to include all the info in the past few turns and the previous summary, then the summarized turns are dropped from memory. So things that haven't come up in a while will often lose a lot of detail over time. Sometime it will recall perfectly because all the detail stayed in the summary by sheer chance though.
