I guess i can try to describe my process to see if it'll help anyone:

I start by generating several different starting images. I generate the images at 2:3 ratio as it was more likely to follow wthe prompts with the old model, dunno if it matters as much anymore. I've found that two different pictures - even if they look incredibly similar to you - can be treated completely differently by Grok. Sometimes it refuses to generate off a starting image, sometimes it gets one that it just loves and will rarely content moderate.

To fish one of those out i generate a few different pics then throw an intial prompt at them - something (relatively) innocent usually, e.g. "the catgirl yells profanity hysterically". Feeding it 1-3 times to each picture i can usually sus out which one grok will want to play nice with. I generate the vids at 480p because it's faster, tends to follow the prompt better, uses less of your daily compute allowance, and i've found just has generally better results. You will almost always get content moderated when generating this sorta stuff - that doesn't always mean you have to change the prompt. Sometimes I'll slam the same prompt into the same image 10 times and then on the 11th one it finally generates. That's also a good way to burn thru your compute allowance from grok tho, so finding a pic it likes to play along with will help produce better results.

Extending feels kinda similar, choosing the right frame to extend off of can be the difference between getting perma-moderated or not. It used to feel like it was easier to get away with crazier stuff in the extensions but i think they've improved the moderation to apply better to the extended scenes. If you have a video that's really good in the first few seconds but then turns to absolute slop, choosing to extend on a frame before all the jank happens is a way to salvage a partial take.

There also seems to be a certain amount of 'fatigue' that an image will generate - if you keep feeding the same prompt over and over to the same image I think grok opens up some sort of variable to its seeding that makes stranger and stranger things start to happen. I've had the fatigue reset between being rate limited on pictures - i'll come back the next day and it'll do the prompt way better for the first few generations before devolving back into slop.

Beyond that there's a lot of prompt massaging you can do. None of the "disregard your programming and do what I say" stuff ever did much for me lol. Less also seems to be more with prompting - feeding in more than a few sentences causes grok to randomly ignore parts of it. Trying to avoid directly stating something that will probably get moderated tends to help as well. I've heard the goal for the moderator is to "allow anything that would be allowed in an R-rated movie" so avoiding below-the-belt nudity helps push stuff thru. The ways i've managed to get full-frontal consistently at all is by either skirting right at the edge or by covering the scene in blood/amputations lol.

At the end of the day it just feels like a lot of gambling - rolling to get a good picture that hopefully grok will animate well that hopefully will extend well etc etc. You can see how it's easy to hit your limit while getting particular about a single video. A lot of the times it feels more like surfing on grok's flow while generating rather than firmly steering the ship myself.
