the only "right way" is the way you yourself like it, as far as I'm concerned
there are very different tastes and opinions on the matter of emotional expression,
I should have said: "even better for me". others will dislike just that.
if you are in fact aiming for the frightened damsel look, my guess would be, that the realism
makes it harder. you see those more often in anime-style AI pictures.
your art is pretty great already either way.
