You are surely aware, that there is a special board-rule about photorealistic AI.
If not, please read the rules, including the flowchart:
https://guro.st/rules/
This rule is now getting enforced more, because the amount of photorealistic AI posted is rapidly increasing
and with newer models getting more realistic by the minute.
>>30944
But what counts as photorealistic?
Why do some images or videos get deleted, while others are not?
"That can be subjective." (see thread above about CRACKDOWN!) Therefore it can feel unfair at times.
We do like realistic looking AI, too.
But we also have to keep the safety of all of GUROchan in mind and enforce the rules.
We try to delete as few works as possible, it always is a struggle finding a reason
NOT
to delete something.
As of now, there have been several attempts made to explain, what it is and what it is not. It is a bit complicated.
There may still be some questions left unanswered.
Another try to explain in detail what makes something photo-realistic:
1) The
top
rule in GUROchan is:
NOTHING REAL
(at all)
If any part of an image or video is from a real photograph etc. it has to go.
For example screencaps of PKF movies that have been popping up on /ai are 100% banned and repeating to post
stuff like that may get
YOU
banned.
That said, there is a tiny bit of wiggle-room for inanimate objects and maybe even animals.
Still banned, but there is a slim chance of not getting deleted.
Real photo of a Landscape or a pot of coffee might be tolerated.
Real photo of a Landscape as a Background in an AI work that is otherwise unrealistic, might be tolerated.
Cute photo of a cat might be tolerated.
Real photo of a cat getting slaughtered will most definitely be not.
With real photos of persons, there is no room at all. None. Same goes for parts.
Photo of a severed toe? Banned, deleted.
2)
The rule about photorealistic AI derives from that and is
about anything that looks like a real photo,
even though it is not.
That is also true for parts!
Again inanimate objects in case of AI not a problem. (at all)
Animals not really a problem, depends a bit on what is happening.
Persons on the other hand
are
a problem. So the rule is about more than persons, but essentially
only persons really matter in that regard.
It is NOT about the age of a person. (loli is NOT the problem)
It is NOT about the race of a person.
It is NOT about the gender of a person.
It is NOT about the degree of nakedness of a person.
It is NOT about what happens to a person or a part of a person. (it does not matter how extreme it is)
It
IS
only about the question if a person, or part of a person in a work of AI could be confused with a real photo.
PART OF A PERSON is very important in that context.
Does it look like a real photo / can it be mistaken for one depends on a lot of factors and does not only
mean the whole thing.
If the wrong part looks too real
, that gets a work deleted.
Examples:
You got a very realistic image of a girl getting disemboweled. But she is not gagged or restrained, smiling
and enjoying what is happening to her. That is obviously unrealistic, even though it looks real.
If the situation itself, including the person somehow is grotesque, very unbelievable and such,
the realistic art-style alone is not the problem, because the whole thing is UNREALISTIC.
But you have to see that ON the person somehow.
A very realistic hanging of a loli in a setting of the middle ages for example, is way more complicated:
You can do a lot of magic with Photoshop. You could easily have taken a real photo and just changed the background.
To get to the first scene (smiling girl getting gutted) using a tool would be far less easy.
Mood, body movement and several other little details are much harder to change without leaving a trace.
That breaks the harmony of an image and stands out, making for an unrealistic effect. In other words, if the smiling
scene had in fact been altered using a different real photo, it would be easier to spot and of course be deleted.
In the second example you'd have to make sure, that it looks artificial. By putting in some tweaks or little errors,
ON the person that clearly belong to the image and would not happen in a real photo.
Say you take a real photo and put in a dragon. Still a photo. The dragon is fantasy and not realistic, but it doesn't
change how realistic the other parts of the image are.
This is also the issue with putting cat's ears and a tail on an otherwise very believable person.
(again: age does not matter.)
This does NOT make the work unrealistic. It could very well just be a real photo that has been altered.
Other tweaks however DO make a work unrealistic. To many to list here, but you can ask, if you want to know why
a specific image did NOT get deleted.
Choosing a low resolution for an image / preview image makes matters worse!
On a higher resolution, tiny details that are unrealistic are easier to spot increasing the chance of not getting
that image deleted.
More examples:
Image showing only a severed foot or / Old man fully clothed getting shot in the head:
If it looks realistic enough to be mistaken for a photo, it has to go.
...
Videos:
Actually videos are often easier than images, because there's way more images to judge and if a part
is unrealistic, the whole thing is ok. BUT: we don't have the time to watch each and every single video.
Therefore the preview image HAS to be unrealistic, too!
One more point:
Not everything that gets deleted has to be a danger to the board. The top rule "NOTHING REAL" is not only about that.
It is also about keeping real photos and videos off of GUROchan. There's other boards for that stuff.
The spirit of that also extends to the rule about photorealistic AI, because that one derives from the top rule.
Last Examples:
A middle aged women, fully clothed, sitting on a park bench, reading a book. AI work.
This has to go either way, because following the flowchart, /ai content has to involve guro. This is not that.
A middle aged women, fully clothed, sitting on a park bench, reading a book, next to her a severed head. AI work.
This does belong on /ai and the whole scene is unrealistic enough to obviously be a work of fiction. That is ok, even if it looks realistic.
A middle aged women, fully clothed, sitting on a park bench, with a gunshot to her head, only a book next to her. AI work.
This could be on the borderline. If the quality is so perfect, that you can't tell if is a photo or not, chances are that it will be deleted.
Hope that helps.
If you still have questions regarding that matter, you can ask them here.
