Soft shadows look much better but if this takes that much difference in time I think we can live with hard shadows as well.

speaking about hair it looks good both ways, hair with soft shadows looks more unnatural as kind of plastic but for some reason it looks pretty sexy that way. Plain hair looks more like a real hair. But it does not give that felling.
