I think the most important part to 'show character is dead' would be the face expression and secondary either wounds or pose.
Expression needs to be(all depends on scene ofc.) either passive or blank.
Its also good to make the eyes less shiny and more faded/misty.
As for pose it depends from pic to pic but usually the corpse would be 'limp'.


As for your drawings - i think they look great! Just need a bit more practice in making them look dead! ;)
