I don't think I've ever seen it, but how about surgical head removal? If limbs can be amputated and braindead patients can be kept alive for a long while, head should also be possible to remove without killing the body. Not the usual chop and let it bleed, but a controlled operation with minimal blood loss and focus on full recovery, including stitching the skin over the cut.
