the proof is that self hammers do seek pain, they seek HARM as self destruction and this is like partial suicide.
Self hammers are literally destroying themselves permanently and there is no way back if you were just interested in stress relief or some strong feelings you woud use some way which cause no permanent damage
those those people do exact opposite they use razor blades that cause almost no pain at all but damage is enormous.
skewering your hand with needle woud be far more painful and free of any permanent damage
