I find it very interesting that you mention a subconscious idea of "it will grow back in a month"

In my view, you've just revealed a key difference in our psychology

When I envision genital mitigation happening to myself, I consider it in terms of permanent, life changing tragedy. Of forever losing a part of yourself, and a large aspect of your human function, forever, in a Freudian psychological sense.

It is hard for me to eroticise the concept of permanent loss of function.

This makes the images much more jarring for me.
