>Unfortunately there are crazy people who view women like they were a separate species and these people really do expect that generalizations about women are actually universal. It's probably best if we don't give people the mistaken impression that we think that way.

Actually, those same crazy people also rarely apply generalizations to all people they meet. it is extremely rare to find someone who will really apply a generalization to absolutely everyone. and even if that generalization happens to be true we sometimes can just deal with that somehow. Like if you have a daughter or wife who is absolutely stupid, you will still love them.
So I do not believe the problem is in such misunderstanding especially in the topic which is demanding generalizations as "gender breakdown"

Those kinds of statements usually mean wahst people expect from the group they refer to. as if I said that "women are stupid" it means that if I take a random woman I assume that she is stupid proven to be wrong. this is just plain statistic.

>>That's a special case. When we insult humanity, we're all in the same boat. So long as we're all stupid, we can all laugh about it. Plus it's usually pretty obvious that anyone saying that isn't serious. If we try calling a person stupid instead of calling humanity stupid, it rarely goes as pleasantly.

oh no, we are not on the same boat. When we use that term we always exclude ourselves we use it to belittle the rest of humanity and show how smart we are ourselves.
we enjoy it precisely because this kind of claim puts us on top of everyone.
If someone says something about your group you can do exactly same you bash your own group telling how horrible they are which immediately excludes you from that group and makes you special.
This kind of conversation can be summarized to "yeah how fortunate (or unfortunate) is for geniuses like us to live will all those imbeciles around so let's go have a coffee and discuss how great we are"

If you refuse to take such an opportunity to lift yourself up against the rest of your group there must be some kind of group solidarity where you actually care about that group as a whole and defend it at the cost of self-interest.

If a woman gets offended instead of joining the discussion and bashing other women along with those women haters telling stories on how horrible are other women she knows, it is because she is defending her group for some reason at her own expense. Biologically there may be some kind of innate desire for women to be part of some group while men usually are way more individualistic. At least all women I met so far had no desire to dominate or get on top of everyone. They do not feel much of pleasure just by knowing that "I am on the top" they are ways more interested in "how useful this is to me"
