>As an aside: The concept of free speech is false. When you are in a private space like a business or a website–there is no such thing as free speech. Free speech is a distinctly American myth. If you say something that is widely regarded as inappropriate, the community you're in has absolutely no obligation to suffer you. Yes. This sounds scary for people who really want to be in that community–wow what if you end up on the wrong side of that? But why would you? Do you not trust yourself to be kind? That's really all it comes down to: Be kind and everything else falls into place behind it. If you cannot do that, then it's time for a good cup of tea with a therapist to work through why that is.
You are a bit mistaken about free speech.
it is not some meaningless right to make people feel better, it is a way to avoid unnecessary violence.
sure it is not a problem on the internet because if you got banned on one forum you just join another where you are more welcome and everyone is protected by internet anonymity and huge distances so you can behave any way you like.
But in real life, this ends with a bit more serious results, like rape murder and terrorism. If people are not allowed to express themselves peacefully they do it violently and the community will suffer even more.
Even if most people will not resort to violence themselves they will provide moral support to those who do it or find some other ways to hurt their community.
