It's funny how long and far this thread has ranged, given that my initial motivation in posting it was to try to connect with people who liked BL games. :-)

I think at the core, everyone can dream of a community where everyone is accepted. But note that this derail started with people saying they felt unwelcome in various spaces. Not that they were kicked out – gurochan, AO3, or pre-purge tumblr weren't kicking anyone out – but that they didn't feel comfortable and didn't get along with the other users. The fundamental divide is that the content that some people feel is "welcoming" is "unwelcoming" to others, and being "welcome" to share opinions others find disrespectful is incompatible with being "welcome" in a space where you are not disrespected.

I think it is impossible to create a space where everybody who enjoys guro feels like they can interact in the way they want. More spaces is better. Of course, there is a boundary to creating those spaces, because so many platforms are off-limits to us. But, the fact that these admins are able to resurrect gurochan, and that AO3 is able to exist and accept any content, gives hope that this community can overcome its issues with TOSes.
