This is just like me. I'll have these awful sadistic fantasies and feel nothing inside them, but in reality I can't bring myself to be mean to people face-to-face even when they deserve it.

I say face-to-face because I can absolutely be mean to people online where they're just a soulless avatar and I don't have to recognize the humanity in them, or see the repercussions of my words.
