Or, the public humilation and/or charging of those involved (despite how much you think his torture, abuse and rape doesn't matter) along with their social ostracization by their loved ones and anyone involved with them. Actual justice will stop the hatred along with the self esteem developed from finally seeing something happen to his tormentors. You can only repress something for so long. Not taking (legal) action leads to, well, something like this thread. He takes these tools and uses them and betters himself along the way. He has started to develop the self respect and already realized he maybe a magnet for abusive women. In the future he will be able to see red flags ahead of time and hopefully avoid them, maybe even "play" them. He isn't stuck in one single position and not everything remains the same. He may suprise you, just give it time.
