You probably don't understand word "diversity", it is not that women are in any way better or worse it is that women are more uniform.
It means that you are less likely to find a girl with really bad grades or very good grades but you will find lots of girls with pretty good grades and on average girls will even perform better than boys.
It is not an individual experience with your mom and girlfriend it is a statistic which involves many people, way more than you can date or even know individually.

My anecdotal evidence has no weight here just like yours I just mention it because I observed that in contrast to your experience.

Physically this is because girls have 2 copies of X chromosome while boys only have one so girls will have double strength of certain gene expression and also they will experience more averaging between thsoe genes.
