Personally, I've never found that tags are consistently or frequently applied enough to be terribly useful on a board like this. I guess on a busy board like Pixiv or Exhentai it's a different story.

Pixiv allows users to set any tags, and this is fine. So for my own kinks, I can search for 圧死 (crushed to death) and find what I'm looking for.

ExHentai only allows a list of pre-rolled tags. So I just have to search for 'guro' there. Not so helpful. Same goes for the boorus.

Of course others with more mainstream fetishes might find tags more useful if people bother to tag their works.

I think this is an interesting idea. Others have pointed out potential pitfalls. I see it as an experiment that should be tried. My own feeling is that it would work if it was easy enough to use, after all wikipedia is pretty successful. And I guess I'd contribute to it.

But I think a solid FAQ is also necessary. Maybe the useful info from the wiki could be lifted into it. In any case, I'd be happy to contribute to an FAQ too. Maybe some mechanism could be put in place to facilitate users contributing to the FAQ, but without it getting spammed like a regular forum thread.
