Yes the reason why gurochan came to existence was because 4chan removed guro board.

At that time I think pixiv did not exist yet and it was pretty big deal to dig duro pictures somewhere in obscure Japanese artists homepages and it was pretty rare

So the way how it looked like, was very much same as it looks like today, except maybe different color scheme.


At this day /g board sort of lost its meaning because who need all that reposting if everything is available on pixiv anyway?
Now gurochan main value is in /lit /art and /3d boards that did not exist originally at all.
