You say that like those Japanese guro artists' old webpages didn't feature webrings with links to all sorts of different guro artists & circles. Add to the fact that there existed tons of niche imageboards/forums, where people not only reposted hard-to-find illustrations, but actually scanned rare guro doujinshi. And before that, people shared their love of guro through newsgroups, AOL, BBS, etc. Also, like anon above said, a lot of Japanese artists abandoned pixiv in favor of twitter, and twitter alternatives, but the way to find new guro art is still relatively the same. Go to a guro artist's profile, check their favorites, find a bunch of new on-the-scene guro creators, profit.
