but maybe in this situation if you only cut one side but leave another lung intact (if that it even possible) maybe it would work.

also that person would be breathing very rapidly but without any use until they die. so you would need some kind of breathing assistance

Of course in guro fantasy this is not that important to be anatomically accurate so if something looks sexy then if can be that way :)
just some accuracy in my opinion is nice to mention from time to time as form of bragging about your biology knowledge :)
