I realized what I was doing wrong: you can’t write FANfic based on something you never liked to begin with, and that’s hairy otter, the weasel, and Hermy-Own in a nutshell.

But I realized I’ve already written fanfic, twice, based on fiction I did like and appreciate very much: Greek mythology (The Judgement of Paris), and The Time Traveler’s Wife (The Time Traveler’s Daughter). It’s definitely off-topic here, but if anyone wants to copy them from asstr-mirror to AO3, I’m sure they’d be welcome there, and I’d appreciate it.
