What tech and even magic can't overcome is the "Law of Conservation of Energy"[1]. If the grow is speed up then the same amount of energy/food/resources has to be invested ‒ only in a shorter time. ;)

This is a good point. And if the males are consumed before puberty they may taste as delicious as females, which are also tastier in a young age without all the hormons ‒ it's the same as with calfs, piglets, lambs or baby goats.
