some suggestions for the thread:
1)
around 5 images per artist, should there be high demand 4 moar
of a specific artist, spawn corresponding thread where it belongs,
to keep this an overview / museum / hall of fame.
2)
artist should be at least somewhat famous / well known / influential / around for a bit
3)
focus on "real" gore, artists fitting the profile should count, if they did more than
just a unicorn / one hit wonder of real gore.
4)
hanging / garotte should count, but if the artist did other explicit guro, those images first.
5)
pics should be as representative of the artists work as possible
6)
add as much information about the artist as available.
era / method / style / type of art...

kicking off with *drumroll* - Dolcett.
I don't know about "best guro artist of all time", that's very subjective.
Dolcett is kind of the "grandfather" of modern gore. At the very least one of them.
A bunch of other great artists have been influenced by his work, often doing tributes.
His work has been around for decades. For the most part working with B&W drawings, his themes span from often
spitting & roasting, cannibalism, cooking alive, beheading, lots of hanging, shootings, drowning, electrocution and some select hints of vore to flaying and more.
A lot. Most of the times lovingly and with a wink of good humor.
B&D Pleasures sold his art prints during the 1980s, but his fame really took flight with the birth of the internet.
He did a lot of comics and whole stories, so sticking to the "around 5 images per artist" suggestion, I merged some of his works to keep parts of the story intact.
Still, picking 5 out of about 500 is not an easy task and a very personal choice, of course.

I wanted to put this rather mild poster in, because Dolcett did A LOT of hangings
and I think, he might actually have colored this one himself. Not sure though.

Tipping my hat to the anon who started the other thread, which lead to this one,
the next artist HAS to be kuroni. Definitely a fantastic artist!
Being a hunter / gatherer myself & a geezer, I tend to know more about the older artists
and thus sadly not much on kuroni, though I adore the pics.
Please help, filling in the blanks! To make this a nice museum of terrific art for newcomers
& old-timers who might have let something slip through the cracks, over the years.
At least that's my take on this thread.

As you can see, kuroni is an extremely talented artist, doing a lot of series in high quality an color. With a fresh take on classical topics. Such a rare and yet historical thing, quartering.

Doing a bit of a flip-flop between old & new(er), the next artist
is another B&W from the olden days. And some mystery, wrapped in an enigma, afaik.
Ricky. My oldest pics of his (her?) artwork are from the 80s. Loved the impressing art-style
ever since. And full on guro in his own right. The art spooked the web for decades, original
website long lost. I posted some of his art on an AI thread here upon request short while ago, took a bit of a beating for it. Not completely undeserving. Could have chosen at least more gory pics.

Anyways, I submit Carl aka. Boli. Definitely one of the first Artists along the already mentioned ones deserving of a place in the venerable hall of guro fame...

Could be wrong, but if memory serves me right about it, this was the first work of his I came across...

He isn't just an awesome artist but just a real chill guy from what I can tell. Though he mostly went mainstream a few years ago he was still occasionally posting on the dolcettish forum until that was sadly closed. Afaik he hasn't posted any guro since (correct me if I'm wrong, pretty pretty please!) and the only presence he still maintains that I'm aware of is on Deviant art.

Hm, I was just about to enter the first 3d artist, but judging by your second comment,
I'll refrain from that for now.
Hadn't happened yet, because I was looking for good example pictures all day.
My idea for the thread was to put the different methods next to each other,
entering only established artists, so their take on the topics could be compared.
How do the textures of Blood, Guts, Splatter, Flames & so on look and how did each artist realize that.
And to establish an overview of what's possible - across the board.
That is why I asked in the first place, where to put the thread.
Personally I like all styles / methods (B&W / color drawings, paintings, 3d, AI, manips...) IF done
on a level of high quality. Bit subjective, of course, and maybe that's just me.
Sure, parallel Who-is-who-lists in the corresponding subsections are an option,
but it feels like it's just not the same.
Could you please kindly elaborate just a little bit, if and why it would be so bad to
have those all together, just within the bounds of the very specific context of this thread?

Oh - and just from my POV, the order of appearance is in no way a ranking.
Each artist in here is supposed to be a master in his/her/their own right.
So far that's working out great, I think.

I've known the art of cheremosh / lcfrvsjss (lucifer vs jesus) for about 15 years.
Picked him as a first 3d entry, because for an excellent 3d artist, he does quite
a lot of serious gore. And several variants of it, too. Lots of impalement, hanging,
some burning, some vore, some dismemberment & more. Else he does BDSM artwork,
pretty cool SCI-FI and other.
He's on pixiv, but maybe due to the censorship there you can more or less forget about that content.
The pics I chose are mostly not his very latest works.
I had some of those, which are absolutely stunning regarding gore. But for some fucked-up reason,
I couldn't find them on my damned machine, so I had to go with the next best thing. Sorry.
Also the reason, why it took so long to post.

next up: Tsepesi. OMG! My oldest Tsepesi-pics are around 30 years old.
Some of my first guro experiences in color. Maybe that's why I love those so much.
Even after all the years, the skin tones, body shapes, positions and most
of all the facial expressions still hold up to comparison. Especially the eyes. Incomparable.
After pre-selecting images, I just couldn't decide between those. So I went with 6 per canvas.
The single images are at their original resolution & not cropped.
6x6 = 2x 6&6&6. ;)

I still remember hitting Tsepesis website back then.
What a rush. I recall him mentioning, that he had been getting a lot of grief
from the usual idiots. So he closed up shop & moved around over the years,
today still on pixiv, though it looks like he hasn't been active there
for quite some time. Just with a few pics. Wonder if he's still around.

did a bunch of guro/lolicon art back in the mid 2000s to early 2010s. Most famous for his Angel Corps series, about an all female special forces unit getting snuffed by rival agents/PMCs. He's since sworn off of it in favour of more generic cheesecake.

As so many of those who are able to create art on that level sadly do. I guess, if you want to make a living as an artist, you just have to go more vanilla/mainstream or you'll starve. Then, their vanilla-fans start whining about the more extreme art and wanting to keep making some dough, the artist stops making those, or at least doesn't publish them anymore.
Which sucks.
So very few really exceptional artists are completely committed to gore.
At least, some very good ones did some real gore. On that note...

Just a quick entry I stumbled upon, checking other artists.
This one is another old-timer, B&W-Stuff, images about 30 years of age.
Name is Haffnium72, not the year 1972, but the atomic number of the
chemical element hafnium (Hf).
He did some extraordinary works with bamboo, most his pictures are rather
on the torture-side of things, but some are quite gory and he did a lot
of nice hangings, so I think it counts. Judge 4 yourself.

Speaking of dedicated artists, about damn time for Uziga Waita.
Waited a while since I'm not an "expert" on him. But since nobody else
does it...

Doing mostly Manga & Doujinshi, going back at least 20 years,
there is a huge amount to choose from. He's done it all.
The glorious death panda, one of his earlier works might well be
his most (in)famous.

Alternating between clear calmness & impressive explosions
of shear chaos and violence you get quite the ride.

And he's got a lott'a humor, as many awesome guro artists do.
Comes with the territory. He himself calls Death Panda
a "Love Comedy" (!) 'nuff said.

It's interesting, that at least several of his colored cover art
were done by different, other guro artists like Tsepesi for example.

Notice the very distinctive, different art-styles.

Its a shame Uziga Waita's art has degraded in recent years. His old work has a far stronger grasp on anatomy and proportions.
