Some of you may have noticed that we now have the long-awaited / promised GUROchan chat room.

In the past we had quite an active IRC channel, and we'd like to bring that community spirit back again.

More recently we had a Discord channel, but due to their content policy, this was mostly used just for reporting issues.

The new GUROchan chat is an easy-to-use, fun place for you to hang out and chat with fellow guro enthusiasts about guro stuff or whatever else is on your mind.

So come over and join the party!

Big thanks to Kaguya, Kuz and the team for making it happen.

Also feel free to report stuff there instead of the report thread.

Using the GUROchan chat is very simple, but because it's based on a old-school Japanese-style web chat, it does have a few quirks to be aware of.

    Getting Started

Go to the chat with this link: https://chat.guro.cx/

Pick a screen name / handle and put it in the 'Name' field.

There is an email field but it's optional so you don't need to bother. If you do, the star next to your name links to your email.

Pick your favourite colour from the options.

Click the 'Enter room' button to join the chat.

You're in! To send a chat just type into the 'Chat:' box and press <enter> or hit the 'Chat/Reload' button.

The page refreshes periodically with new chats. You can change the refresh interval using the 'Reload' options. Note that if you select '0 sec', the page will not refresh and you won't see any new chats.

The 'Lines' option selects how many lines of chat are displayed. Note that if you select 1000 lines, the page will not refresh. This option is so you can read old chats if you need to catch up.

    Other Options

'Kaomoji' -- Add a cool kaomoji to your message!

'Auto clear' -- Normally you want to keep this box checked so that the chat field is cleared after you send a chat.

'Notification sound' -- Get pinged when you're not looking at the chat.

    FAQ

    Q. Do I have to register?
    A. No registration is necessary. The chat is completely anonymous, just like GUROchan.

    Q. Is there a way to send private messages or whisper like in IRC?
    A. No. All chats are public.

    Q. Is it possible to @ people in the chat?
    A. Not currently.

    Q. What is a tripcode?
    A. In short, it's a digital signature that stops people impersonating you. You don't need to use it in the chat unless that worries you. More information here: https://www.guro.cx/faq/tripcode.html

    Q. Why doesn't it update in real time?
    A. The chat uses an older webform-based system, so page updates have to be initiated by the browser.

For reference, the chat has the following text formatting options:

    bold
    italic
    underlined
    strikethrough
     code

    [s1] smallest size [/s1]
    [s5] biggest size [/s5]
    >>
it's important to note that the chat isn't "real-time"
there is an auto-refresher that refreshes the chat as the moderator noted, but you otherwise need to click this button (like sending a blank message, pressing enter works too). I see some people just saying hi and not responding further, so noting down.
