I noticed this months ago, and had the same emotional reaction of fury. I now regret having ever donated anything to the fucking pro-censorship shitheads, and never will again. Though at the time I didn’t know if the bastards had censored all of ASSTR or only MY stories on it.

Does anyone know of a replacement for ASSTR itself? A place that allows an author to anonymously post stories and control everything about the appearance, without any censorship?

A website can be excluded if the owner wants it to be as well. I know that the nemlei games and sites were there, then excluded later, the creators were scrubbing their net history. So it may not be IA alone but someone who claimed or owns ASSTR or its address now. Almost impossible to check however.

I'm positive that AO3 would be fine with hosting your works. I think technically they only allow fanworks of existing works, but OC is extremely common there as well. They are extremely pro-free speech.

Don’t worry about not being able to contact me through that puzzle. Nobody else did, either, then a few months after I put it up there, the site that hosted my email got taken over by anti-privacy assholes that demanded all of their users switch to one of a handful of browsers that all had backdoors for every anti-privacy anti-free-speech asshole in the world. Since I refused, I couldn’t use their site again, and since it happened with no warning whatsoever, I couldn’t even recover past email.

The asstr-mirror archive mentioned above has changes I made on 31 December 2020, so it couldn’t be based on something from 2017, but it has nothing I updated between 2020 and when ASSTR died in 2022. Thus there’s nothing online with all my work on editing and formatting Twice The Fun, or any of the approximately 30 minor updates to other stories. Anyway, it’s nice that the mirror is there at all.

I have no idea what AO3 is, but I’d be interested.

AO3 is Archive Of Our Own. It's famous for hosting fanfics, but I believe it also allows (or at least doesn't strictly prohibit) OC. Most people who go there are more interested in reading about Harry Potter banging Herminone, but there are lots of much darker stories, and OCs, as well. Someone recently reposted one of Aloster Loki's extremely dark stories from ASSTR to there.

I'm used to hosting websites. I actually used to host GUROchan (I'm ryonaloli, just not setting my name right now). I don't have the kind of time to develop an ASSTR replacement, but if someone else does, I'd be more than happy to host it on my own dime. Until then, AO3 is a good bet.

That asstr-mirror archive has some very strange errors. For example, if you alter the url by hand, you can get to http://www.asstr-mirror.org/files/Authors/GeorgiePorgie/www/twice.htm so it isn’t lost completely, and that’s a relief, but none of the indexes link to it, not even the complete list of files on my site that stops at 117, instead of 131.

Even stranger, two files I uploaded to ASSTR at the same time in April 2022, the disclaimer has the new version, and Kaiah’s first video pt. 3 has the old version without the cast credits.

I have copies and backups of everything, including all the minor edits I’ve made since ASSTR died. (Oh, I was sure that was in 2022, but see now it wasn’t until 2023.)

Since AO3 was brought up, I want to chime in: I have been using AO3 for almost a year now and been slowly posting my stories there without any issues. I've read some of your stories years ago (and liked them), and I know what I'm writing is even more extreme, so you're gonna be fine over there.

The file browser, on the other hand seems to work alright (although it’s a pain to use; I’m on page 96 or so). It also reveals that the archive has saved numerous files I deleted or renamed years before ASSTR died.

I looked at AO3 but was annoyed at the demand that I ‘agree’ to have all of my personal info tracked, archived, and analyzed by every government branch or proxy in the U.S. If they had stated it as a warning that it would happen instead of a demand for my agreement, I wouldn’t have found it nearly as irritating. Still, I suppose I’ll overcome it eventually. Unless they demand an email address, which would be a deal-breaker.

Correct. There are roughly 150k stories over there tagged as original work. Not all of that is porn, this isn't a porn site. But it's open for really anything, you just need to tag it properly and use the warnings so nobody stumbles over your stuff by accident and so the people looking for your stuff can find it.

The stuff I'm writing is all original work, I'm not writing any fanfic. And I'm writing torture porn about little girls getting kidnapped, raped and tortured to death, so it doesn't get much more extreme.

At risk of sounding stubborn (wouldn’t be the first time), let’s compare websites I frequently read, websites I read and frequently contribute to, and websites I never read or contribute to. First case: gurochan. I can come here and read EVERYTHING on it without ever ‘agreeing’ to anything, and I can post whatever I want without ‘agreeing’ to anything and without even once having an email address demanded. The format and function of gurochan is perfect, like a dozen other places devoted to other topics. The only thing I find wrong with gurochan is the reaction I’d get if I posted my stories here without any shit, piss, blood, gore, mutilation, injury, or death, or threats of any of those things, all of which ruin a story for me. Thus this is the wrong place for my stories, and I accept that.

ASSTR was great; it let me post whatever stories I wanted, and let me read everything on the site, without even once being forced to ‘agree’ to anything, even giving an email address was optional. I greatly miss it, and I wish someone somewhere would recreate it.

Then there’s this other website where they absolutely refuse to let you even SEE what’s there, at all, unless you ‘agree’ to something I find completely disagreeable. I’ve never even seen one page of what’s on Archive Of Their Own because they won’t show me anything unless I first LIE to them. It’s like a coffee shop that won’t let you in the front door to see what they have until you sign a statement saying they have the right to do an invasive colonoscopy on you whenever they want.

Why can’t there be someplace like gurochan only without the requirement to include things I detest? So that everyone can read it, everyone can contribute what they want, and no one is forced to lie or show ID to get in the door?

Actually we're pretty relaxed about it if you want to post occasional non-guro stories, as long as you make that clear in the title or description. Of course, if the majority or you work isn't guro, then yes, this isn't the right place.

GUROchan is actually totally fine for some of the rougher the stuff you like. It's not all blood and guts. Rape, bondage, or anything non-consensual will be enjoyed by many, as long as you have a disclaimer. One of the biggest threads of all time was a rape megathread, without any blood or guts at all.

Moderator said if the majority of my stories aren’t guro, this isn’t really the place for them. Not only are the majority not gore, NONE of them are. I got hounded out of here six years ago (not by moderators, but by numerous commenters) for not being ‘guro’ enough. Only reason I still read it is for the occasional Drabok’s image to set up a story that goes too far for me, but starts great.

Given my computer hardware and resources, I doubt I could manage my own site, but thanks for the idea.
