damn, i'm not an atf og in any sense, but this is tragic. The website always felt like a infinite rabbit hole that's just full of fun and whimsy, and it was running like clockwork, thanks to the admins. Even though fun websites are always subject to attacks, it felt like this one's gonna last forever. Damn

I don't think I'm gonna back up anything, solely because it's never gonna be enough. Just sad

as much i as understand. the owner,Vistarrr, banned this JohnMolotov guy. then for whatever reason took him back and gave him access to every part of the ATF site, then John promptly backed up for himself every possible. and Vistarrr banned him again, after which John started blackmailing him telling he will release all the data. and now Vistarrr decided to take it all down. lol, he even named the pic "extortion"

Ugh. This sucks. It's not just the forums, it's EVERYTHING. Including the booru and the game mods.

Vistarr wasn't the one who brought him back. Othe site staff did, when Vistarr went MIA for a few months for personal reasons. They asked him to make a site back up in case it was needed, as a contingency. But then Vistarr came back, and t nations between John and other site staff got bad enough several people threatened to quit if he stayed. So he was removed.

He threatened to leak the data then, unless he got reinstated and everyone who got him booted for fired. But Vistarr countered that he'd just nuke the site instead. John backed down. But, apparently, he got into a shit flinging contest with someone else on the staff he'd been dating and shit in the DMs that leaked were bad enough Vistarr wanted to ban John. But John, again, threatened to release the backups if banned. So, Vistarr's going nuclear and closing the site to try and resolve the problem. There's no reason to fight over the data if there's no site to fight about, is his logic.

And apparently the forums were almost out of server space anyway, which was going to trigger a different crisis in a few months. Between that, and it sounding like Vistarr is just tired, I'm guessing he just wants out.

Mixed feelings on this. While I am concerned about what will happen to the mods and games that were uploaded there, I can't say I was ever a big fan of ATF (mostly because the userbase was annoying as shit). I think my real concern is that this feels like a "win" of sorts for pro-censorship people even if laws aren't the reason why the website's going down.

If the data get leaked, also with the user Gmail, will I go to jail?

just taking in consideration how the whole admins drama behind the scene was handled, and how the whole decision was basically 1 guy and not an even meager thread to seek any possible solution,
it show how how much little regard the managment has for its users and the significance of the sute

sucks for the mods and games and the booru that was there, but good riddance for that utterly noxious userbase

so long story short, there are several threads attempting scraping, archiving and reviving atf. Seems like some users are getting ready to host these alternatives/continuations. One of the helpers collected an entire list full of atf alternative options, though of course, none of them will really fill in for what we had

Also I think I saw a mod saying they will help with the stuff??? Can't find the message anymore, but they were talking about sending physical copies of atf, because speed limits make it hard to scrape the site

So yeah, the teamwork is growing over there. I hope these guys succeed

I think forums are a bad medium for taboo fetish discussion. The next time a big hentai sharing forum gets shut down, someone should just convert it into a p2p file sharing service. That way you don't have to create an account and risk getting your information leaked after some gay coup d'etat or website hack, just because you wanted to find off-site DDL links that don't even work 3/4 times.

P2P can be very enduring, and after seeing more than one forum going away because someone with central control(whether owner or service provider) didn't care, the idea of not having central control is attractive. But I think that's more exposed than a forum since you're connecting to more people.

Still, some outside the box thinking is needed if we want places for our community that are really built to last. Hyphanet seems interesting, and there's probably a way to conveniently set up a newsgroup just with our emails.
