Did you know, that you can delete your own posts, or even threads?
It's as easy as 1...2...3.
1) While posting, you need to
set a password
to be able to delete your post or thread later.
2) See that checkbox next to each post and thread?
To delete your post or thread, you need to check that
.
3) After you checked the box, you can enter your password from before
at the very bottom of the page
.
There is another checkbox named "File only". If you check that one, your post will remain, but any
file
will be deleted.
If you do
not
check that, the whole post or thread will be gone, after you hit the "Submit" button.
That's it.
No more typos, accidental posts and so forth.
You
have control over what you do here.
Awesome, is it not?

Do you know, what the checkbox "sage" actually does?
You should, if you took the time to read the FAQ. It is explained there very well.
https://guro.cx/faq/
Checking the box just enters "sage" into the E-mail field for you, if you're too tired or lazy to type it yourself. 🥱
>Typing sage into the email field prevents the thread from being bumped. This is used when you are not posting something that portrays to the topic of the thread.
While posting a comment or remark,
take a moment to think
if it is important or interesting enough to bring the thread to the top of the board. If not,
use sage
!
On the other hand, if you are posting an image or video, you probably want others to see it.
Do not use sage in these cases

Did you already notice, that there is
private messaging
on GUROchan now?
All you need is a
tripcode
and you're ready to go!
What's a tripcode, you ask? Again, very well described in the FAQ, there is even a special page, dedicated to tripcodes!
https://guro.cx/faq/
https://guro.cx/faq/tripcode.html
As soon as you created your own tripcode, you can contact anybody else who has one,
privately

What does Settings->General->Media->
Gallery mode
do?
I'd hoped it would be like
Catalog
, but
inside
a thread, creating a thumbnail gallery, that would be great!
But at the moment it appears to do nothing at all.

figured it out.
You need to open an image and depending on the context, you get a continuous strip of images
in order of appearance of the normal view, as far as I can see.
On a board like /3dcg, all preview-images of all threads in a row.
Inside a thread, all images of that thread alone in a row.
You get out of that view, using the escape-key.

I also want to invite more people to use the thread watcher feature. It keeps track of threads you want to watch, you can choose to automatically watch the threads you post in, and get alerted if someone makes a new reply/replies you receive.
It may ask you to accept browser notifications, which can be handy to get immediate notifications, but it's a solid feature without that too.

A great thing about GUROchan is, that it works rather well without JavaScript (JS).
If you have disabled JS in your browser for security reasons, you can still use a great deal of features, including:
- the creation of threads
- writing a reply
- using the search
- reporting something
- use Filters
- watch all thumbnails & images
and more. But, same as with other websites, you have to be aware, that the site looks a bit different without JS
and that several other features won't work, including:
- the thread watcher
- advanced settings (you will not even see those)
- styles like dark mode etc (you won't see those either)
- videos won't play
and more.
GUROchan does not track you, store your IP-address, use external services like g💀💀gle and such and is of course encrypted.
So if you enable JS, it's reasonably safe and you get more out of the experience. But you don't have to.
One remark about drawing on /kaki though: you have to enable JS to get the modules to work.
And what is more, you have to allow canvas data to post your finished drawing.
This does make your browser uniquely identifiable. If you are all about privacy, this might not be for you.
Depending on your browser, you'll get a warning about that. Be aware, that drawing on the oekaki board and posting your
work afterwards is less anonymous than anything else around here.

If you like to help keep GUROchan clean, you can now use the report feature.
The report-thread on /dis that has been used so far, is no longer necessary and has been locked.
You can report anything that is against the rules (CP, Spam, real porn, photorealistic AI...),
stuff that doesn't belong on a specific board, get an admins attention about questionable activities (trolling, flaming...)
or even if you posted something in error and forgot to set a delete password (see academy-entry about how to delete your own post or thread).
Depending if you have JavaScript enabled or not, you'll find an arrow â–¶ next to each post, or directly the entry "report".
Clicking on the arrow will open a box, where you can choose between hiding a post or thread (only for yourself) and reporting such a post or thread.
Clicking on report will in both cases open the reporting-dialog, without JS in the same window, with JS in a pop-up. (see screenshot)
All reports go to a pool, where the admins will either approve or dismiss them.
Approval will result in an action (deletion, movement or at least an answer)
Dismissal may be explained by an admin, or nothing will happen at all, depending on the case.
You can always check the status of your report at the very top of the site (#3 in the screenshot)
This only works, as long as you're using the same IP-address, that you were using when reporting.
Your real IP is
not
used in the process, the board is anonymous for good reason, but it
is
used to create an
anonymous report-ID that will only work for you as long as you have the same IP. Else you will just not see the info.
You don't have to enter any reason while reporting and in very obvious cases it is not necessary either.
But if what you are reporting is not absolutely self-explanatory, it is highly recommended, that you give a reason
why you are reporting something and what you're expecting to happen. If you do not give a reason, it is far more
likely, that your report will be dismissed without an explanation.
GUROchan thanks you for your help!

You can use normal hyperlinks anywhere on GUROchan, this should be obvious.
They do not require JavaScript and you can also refer to external content.
This one goes to the academy-thread itself:
https://boards.guro.cx/dis/koko.php?res=25102&page=1
This one opens the thread too, but jumps directly to the post about reporting:
https://boards.guro.cx/dis/koko.php?res=25102&page=1#p6_25342
And last, but not least, you can link to any content directly, like the description about reporting:
https://boards.guro.cx/dis/src/1787256322036.png
So far - so easy.
GUROchan does have several functions for internal references.
You
do
need JavaScript to be enabled for those to work properly, or at all.
They are all activated by a combination of the right arrow(s) and a post ID.
Take a look at the first line of each post. It is always built like this:
(# consecutive Number of the post in that thread. If there are Numbers missing, it means that something has been deleted after posting)
(Checkbox to mark a post for deletion, see
>>25103
)
(Subject of the post)
(Name of the poster)
(Date)
(Time)
("No.)
(unique post ID)
(â–¶ play button, not right arrow, to open hide & report functions)
Did you notice, that behind ("No.) and (unique post ID) there are two different hyperlinks?
A bit confusing, because the first one behind ("No.) refers to the unique post ID itself
and jumps directly to it, while the second link behind the (unique post ID) creates a quote
of that post in the Comment section and the quick reply pop-up window.
You can also enter that manually, which will come in handy later.
Take a look at the post about reporting above. Its unique ID is 25342.
This is only unique inside the board /dis. Try doing a search for No. 25342 across all boards.
There is a 25342 on several boards. That is the reason why a direct reference to a unique post
only works inside a specific board.
Now, the first kind of reference is the direct text-quote and it starts with a single right arrow.
This kind of quote always finds the last occurrence of the quoted text and creates a link to the corresponding post and an automatic preview,
as well as an entry "
Replies(#):
" behind the quoted post.
You can use this kind of quote to just make your statement appear as a quote, too. (e.g. in green text board-style "Gurochan")
If the board does not identify the text somewhere in the posts above, it just highlights it and you get a
"Quote not found" - Message on Mouse-Over. This
can
also happen, if you leave a blank space after the arrow, so to be sure it works
you should enter the quote directly behind the arrow. Let's try that now...
>overlooked something
(this should find the initial post.)
>uniquely identifiable
(this should find the post about JavaScript)
>Dragons are Awesome
(this should find nothing, though the word Awesome can be found in the first post.
>board
(the word "board" can be found 7 times in this thread, but it should return the post about Reporting directly above,
going backwards.)
We've seen already, that using two right arrows creates an internal link directly to a single post with the benefit of an
automatic preview when you move the Mouse over that quote, as opposed to a normal hyperlink which does not create a preview.
In addition, the board informs you about some special positions like the OP, or if a link crosses over to another thread on the same board.
>>25110
(links to the post about the Thread Watcher and creates a preview.)
>>25102
(links to the initial post and should inform you, that this is the opening-, or original post (OP)
As mentioned above, post-IDs are unique inside a single board.
We can use that fact, to create a reference to a post in another thread on the same board, in this case /dis
again with the benefit of getting a preview of that post.
>>25092
(this goes to the opening post of the "? ask an admin ?" thread and should inform you, that it is a cross-thread reference)
So far, so good. But wouldn't it be great, to be able to reference something on a different board?
Let's say you're very interested in drowning. There is a dedicated thread about that on /g.
Of course, 3dcg and AI are not allowed on /g. Some users don't want to see that kind of content at all, drawings only.
Others are more interested in the topic itself and don't mind the method of creation, or art-style.
It can be a pain in the ass, to stroll around the whole of GUROchan, looking for a specific kind of content, in this example drowning.
You can of course use a normal hyperlink to inform those that are interested about content on other boards,
without pissing off others by putting content where it doesn't belong. And that is, how most people do it.
The only downside being, that you have no idea, what you get and have to follow the link blindly.
Well... you don't
have
to do it that way.
>>>/3dcg/58091
(drowning on 3dcg, even though we're on /dis)
You have to type those manually. Three arrows / board / unique post ID (on
THAT
board) no blank spaces, mind the spelling.

Frames and Styling in GUROchan:
If you would like to navigate GUROchan using frames, you can do that on the homepage.
Only there (
go to [Home] on the right side at the top of each page
), you'll find an entry
"[Use Frames]" on the right, below the title. Follow this to a version of the site with frames.
You can also use this link:
https://guro.cx/frames.html
If you like to enjoy the site with a different look & feel, you can do that by choosing a Style.
At the very bottom of each page, on the right is a menu, where you can choose the Style
.
Check out how some of those look with frames in the attached screenshot, from top-left to bottom right:
Gurochan, Gurochan Original, Gurochan Light, Gurochan Dark
