The Biological Displacement Device (B.D.D.) was first invented in 1944 as an alternative method for restoring the amputated limbs of soldiers on the Western Front.
As time went on, the B.D.D. was upgraded further. Its first major milestone was allowing separated body parts to continue biological functions independently, making the device ideal for the overseas transport of organs and limb donations used in life-saving surgeries.
In the 1960s, the technology became advanced enough to allow nerve signals to be transmitted between detached body parts, effectively making it possible for a head not only to survive while detached from the rest of the body, but also to control it without any issues.
Soon, the device became available to all U.S. citizens. Its installation became a standard cosmetic procedure offered in many clinics across the country. Naturally, there was a huge economic incentive behind all of this, resulting in many people being pushed to undergo the procedure without understanding the social ramifications.
