How about a slight alteration to this concept? If they're hemi or half girls above the waist with no amputations, instead of hands, they have feet at the ends of their arms? This just seems to me to make more sense, because hands aren't made for walking, and this is so rare (in fact I don't think I've ever seen it done before).
