If this is in fact everything of his, then maybe I don't have to go through my old NullBrainz backup to find those old images (the backup was on that file server IDE HDD)

1. The file server's mobo was so old that it only supported USB 1.1 and had no SATA (Pentium 3), so the quickest way to get data onto a SATA drive was via 100Mbps LAN onto a different PC that had SATA ports (none of the PCs I have that are up-and-running have both IDE and SATA ports).

2. I insisted on doing an SHA-1 checksum to make sure everything had copied correctly (this takes quite a while over 100Mbps LAN!). It's a good thing I did because several of the files did not and had failed the test.

3. During this process of checking the data integrity, the hard drive started failing where it would disconnect from the host PC after being "overused". In order to prevent that, I had to start doing checksums in smaller groups (like only 30GB at a time or something) and then let the drive rest before moving on to the next group.
