She was a refugee.
When she was 4yo, she lost her left arm and both he parents as a result of war.
She spent the days after that with her fellow refugees.
During the summer she turned 15yo, she was adopted by a Japanese guy named "Migi-san" and had been living in Japan since then.
Since she was pretty smart, she managed to enroll in a high school.
She was seemingly emotionless, but deep down she was actually a nice person.
Perhaps it had something to do with her spending much of her time living without her family.

She got her name, Light, when she was still a refugee.
Although she had only her right arm, she kept motivating herself to live on that.
Since her past as a refugee was deeply engraved on her memory, she tended to forget about her current living situation and would put on her sewn old clothes from time to time.
