Marias may be a warrior while her sister is a priestess of Diemdre, one of the unicorn Forest Mothers (sacred goddesses representing the different facets of unicorn-kind), but Marias herself is in fact quite short for one of her kind at a height of 7'3". For the record, Clara, being more typical in size, stands at 8'2". And needless to say, Marias' siblings do like to playfully tease her about her small size. Luckily, she can give back as good as she gets in other ways.
If not for the fact that Marias' family is known to be capable of detaching their own parts, this display would certainly seem macabre, but as they are, this is mere playfulness on Clara's part and Marias has managed enough of a disarmament to be able to get closer now.
And a bit of lore to explain things: Not all unicorns in their world are modular. This is specifically a feature stemming from their family's divine connection to Diemdre, who is known as a liberator for having been able to escape her own bondage by taking herself apart and reassembling herself (much like how in some Native American myths, Coyote has escaped a few situations) and was able to later return with a force to free the other slaves. And yes, one of Diemdre's laws is that slavery is outlawed, and that those who serve are to be afforded great respect and fair payment. This tends to chafe with the noble scions of the other people, who often build their cities on the labor of those "beneath them."
