Mr Otter found out, after two continuous weeks of letting his neck take a break from holding his head, that the two ends slowly healed until a thin layer of smooth skin had covered what had once been the end of his throat and spine. His head would begin to slide off or tumble over whenever he tried to reattach it. But he carried on as usual, happily toting his head around as he went.

Soon he would catch someone's attention well enough to want to strike up a conversation with him. A curious young buck would be the one to do so, asking him how he ended up that way, and after a brief explanation, the otter asked if he would want to see what it was all about. The deer answered yes, of course, if it doesn't hurt too much. The otter said it would, but it was all worth it. Despite a pause during which the deer considered this opportunity, they ended up at the otter's place soon afterwards.

It was a pretty simple beheading. Though he laid his head down on a table, the headless otter's blind body skillfully sawed the buck's head clean off. The deer was of course surprised that it worked, and that he was still alive, like his new friend. They spent the rest of the day enjoying their headless state, which turned into a week, the buck not even noticing at the end that his fresh wound didn't seem so fresh anymore.
