That actually kind of happened to me. I was writing a story about a news station in some sort of fucked up world where people die routinely, when a real story of a guy shooting two women on live TV happened. The two weren't really connected in any way except the connection of death on TV and news, but I didn't want to call any attention to myself so I stopped writing it.
