But while my stoner friends love the concept of that movie (a bunch of Italian fascist libertines sexually torture some peasants/slaves), when I thought of a similar subject where it was set in 1920s Russia with a bunch of Bolsheviks doing the same to nobles and capitalists, they all thought that sounded silly but also cathartic. Too cathartic to be real horror. Which says something about us I guess haha
I think the big problem is that you're supposed to empathize with the victims of torture porn but it's hard to empathize with the ruling elite. That's why we had to use Anastasia when exalting the Romanovs, because no one was going to feel bad for Nicholas or Alexandria or the older daughters. Maybe the younger Alexei.
