It's a reddish brown / brick red. Possibly it's brighter on the artist's display than on yours, as oftentimes display calibration can throw off colors. I agree that perhaps a more vivid shade of red would be good here - the shade we have now is more reminiscent of old blood residue in the process of drying up than freshly spilled blood.
