You must have two essential items in your inventory the stoneaxe and the pickaxe. Both can be crafted from raw materials you gather on the island. The stoneaxe you use to chop trees and the pickaxe to break and mine rock. Stones can't be used instead rocks but they have other uses including attacking enemies. Later you will need to club to beat natives and "persuade" them to join your cause;) All these weapons can be used for fighting and hunting but they have diferent damage. I reccoment you start metal working as soon as possible. Good luck!
